Job Title: Director of Purchasing

Work Location: Suffolk County, NY

Summary:

The Director of Purchasing is responsible for leading all procurement activities across the organization, ensuring efficient sourcing of materials, services, and products while optimizing cost, quality, and vendor performance. This strategic role blends analytical rigor with strong supplier relationship management, supporting company growth and profitability.

Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Sourcing: Develop and implement company-wide purchasing strategies aligned with business goals and sustainability standards.
  • Vendor Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, negotiate contracts, and ensure compliance with service level agreements.
  • Spend Analysis: Monitor procurement performance using KPIs; evaluate cost-saving opportunities, volume discounts, and total cost of ownership metrics.
  • Forecasting & Planning: Collaborate with inventory, operations, and finance teams to project demand and optimize ordering cycles.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate supply chain risks, including disruptions, price volatility, and compliance issues.
  • Policy & Compliance: Develop procurement policies, procedures, and documentation systems in alignment with ISO standards or applicable frameworks.
  • Team Leadership: Manage purchasing team members, providing mentorship, training, and performance.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, or related field; MBA or APICS/CPIM/CPSM certification preferred.
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in procurement or supply chain roles, including 3+ years in a leadership position.
  • Strong negotiation skills, market analysis capability, and supplier performance tracking.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., Infor, Visual, SAP, Oracle), inventory planning tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills with proven ability to work cross-functionally.
  • Experience in manufacturing and consumer goods industries.
  • Familiarity with ESG and other ethical sourcing initiatives.
  • Ability to thrive in Family Owned Business Environment.
