Reports to Chief Medical Officer
We’re a fast-moving, resourceful startup building innovative solutions focused on improved outcomes for the most difficult to treat infection. We thrive on curiosity, velocity, and breakthrough thinking. Our team is small but passionate, and we’re looking for a key contributor who shares our vision and wants to help innovate on the bioinformatics backbone of our product.
As our Senior Bioinformatics Scientist, you’ll take ownership of the design, implementation, and evolution of metagenomic data processing pipelines. You’ll work closely with R&D, engineering, and product teams to drive insights from complex biological data in real time. This is a hands-on, technical role for someone who’s not afraid to dive into C code, work with messy data, and iterate rapidly.
Responsibilities:
- Architect and implement robust, scalable pipelines for metagenomic analysis
- Apply rigorous versioning and change control practices to all workflows and code
- Explore novel algorithms and data structures for microbial community analysis
- Collaborate with wet lab scientists and software engineers to rapidly prototype and deploy new features
- Benchmark, debug, and optimize existing analysis methods
- Contribute to strategic decisions about data infrastructure and tool selection
Qualifications:
- Deep curiosity about biology, data, and systems
- Track record of innovative problem-solving in bioinformatics or computational biology
- Strong background in version control, reproducibility, and change tracking (e.g., Git, Docker, Snakemake/Nextflow)
- Proficiency in C, and comfort working across low-level and high-level languages
- Experience with metagenomic datasets, including shotgun sequencing and taxonomic classification
- Solid grasp of statistics and computational methods for microbial ecology
- Entrepreneurial mindset; thrives in ambiguity, iterates quickly, and embraces a scrappy build-first culture
- Experience with cloud-based bioinformatics (e.g., AWS, GCP) (Nice-to-have)
- Contributions to open-source bioinformatics tools (Nice-to-have)
- Familiarity with containerization, CI/CD, or hybrid wet/dry-lab environments (Nice-to-have)
- Skills: bioinformatics, infectious disease, python, c, programming
