Job Title: Machinist
Work Location: Norfolk County, MA
Summary:
Seeking a highly skilled Machinist to join a precision machining team in a facility adhering to ISO 13485 standards, serving OEMs in orthopedics, surgical instruments, and implantable devices. The Machinist will be proficient in both manual and CNC machining to produce tight-tolerance parts in stainless steel, titanium, Nitinol, and other biocompatible materials.
Responsibilities:
- Set up, operate, and maintain manual mills, lathes, and grinders for prototype and low-volume production runs.
- Program, set up, and run CNC mills (3-5 axis) and lathes using Mastercam or similar CAM software; experience with Haas, DMG MORI, or Swiss-type lathes is a plus.
- Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T callouts, and material certifications to achieve tolerances as tight as ±0.0002".
- Perform in-process inspections using micrometers, optical comparators, and profilometers; document results per internal and customer quality plans.
- Select and maintain cutting tools, workholding fixtures, and machine systems; recommend tooling improvements for cycle-time reduction.
- Deburr, finish, clean and passivate parts when required.
- Follow SOPs, safety protocols, maintain a clean and organized workspace.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of hands-on machining experience in a medical, aerospace, or similarly regulated shop.
- Proficiency with manual bridgeport-style mills and engine lathes.
- Proven experience as a hands-on machinist in a high-precision environment.
- Strong understanding of machining tight tolerance components, ideally in medical device manufacturing.
- Competence in reading blueprints, GD&T, and interpreting technical specifications.
- Skilled in using micrometers, dial indicators, and inspection tools to maintain tight tolerances.
- Physical ability to lift parts and materials up to 40 pounds.
- Familiarity with ISO 13485, FDA QSR, and cleanroom protocols.
- High school diploma or GED; journeyman papers, NIMS certification, or trade-school diploma strongly preferred.
- Experience programming or editing G-code.
- Familiarity with EDM, grinding, lathes, or all manual equipment.
- Background in regulated industries (medical device, aerospace, etc.).
- Continuous improvement mindset with lean manufacturing exposure.
