Our client, a leading Advanced Materials company, is hiring a Process Technician.
Work Location: Houston
Responsibilities:
- Material Disposition: Review and flag substrate-tape runs that are experimental or deviate from specifications.
- Process Experimentation: Support, execute, and report on DOE-driven studies in PVD, copper electro-plating, electropolishing, and CVD to boost capability, control, and yield.
- Real-time Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve line-related defects (coating thickness, adhesion, surface roughness) with minimal downtime.
- Failure analysis: Execute root-cause investigations on suspect or experimental tapes using SEM, XRF, ICP-MS, adhesion testing, profilometry, and other relevant instrumentation.
- Process Validation/Qualification: Document qualification runs, maintain SOPs, and support change-control workflows to ensure reproducibility.
- Tool Operation: Assist Process engineers to conduct DOE’s by preparing material, loading and operating the tools.
Qualifications:
- Associate's degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a related discipline.
- 3 years of process-technician or process-engineering experience in a semiconductor-style or advanced-materials manufacturing environment.
- Hands-on experience in developing and sustaining sputter, electro-plating (including copper), electropolishing, and chemical-vapor deposition processes in a production setting.
- Semiconductor manufacturing background (MEMS, thin-film, or HTS) is a plus.
- Experience in preparing and handling samples for metrology and inspection tools (SEM, XRF, ICP-MS, adhesion tests, profilometry).
- Familiarity with Six Sigma, SPC, and automation tools.
- Ability to produce and maintain validation packages (SOPs, work instructions, change orders).
- Analytical thinking: Strong problem-solving skills with a data-driven approach to engineering trials and production metrics.
- Process Control expertise: Familiarity with in SPC tools and ability to recognize trends in control-charts and interpret based on data.
- Autonomous Troubleshooting: Capable of diagnosing and correcting line issues with minimal supervision.
- Documentation and Quality: Clear, concise communication of results, root-cause reports, and quality-first mindset; experienced with regulatory and internal quality systems.
- Cross-functional collaboration: Works effectively with QA/QC, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing Engineering to ensure seamless process integration.
- Continuous improvement: Familiar with Lean/Kaizen principles; contributes to cost-reduction and efficiency initiatives.
Physical Demands: This position requires sitting at a desk and viewing a computer screen for extended periods while working or performing other office tasks. Ability to move around the office, including occasional standing, walking, and bending to retrieve documents, attend meetings, or use office equipment. Some light lifting may be required, up to 20 lbs.
