Description:


The Director, Medical Communications is responsible for developing and executing the global communications strategy for our client’s metabolic pipeline and clinical programs. Reporting to the Head of Medical Communications, this individual represents Medical Communications in cross-functional program and communication teams and provides risk-based strategic and tactical guidance to meet corporate, program, and functional goals. The Director, Medical Communications will develop and advance medical content to support communication, publication, and outreach strategies across our client’s programs, while also monitoring changes in the medical communications space and/or treatment landscape that may impact current or future program objectives.

Experience:
  • Advanced degree, doctorate level (PharmD, M.D., or Ph.D.) required
  • 10 years of professional experience; industry experience preferred
  • Experience in medical communications/affairs and publications or comparable, with expertise in metabolic disease preferred
  • Experience delivering quality communication materials, including scientific communication platforms, manuscripts, conference publications, medical training materials, disease and thematic primers, exhibit booths

Responsibilities:

May include some or all of the following:
  • Drive the development of proactive global medical communication plans aligned with overall program objectives for our client’s metabolic pipeline and programs
  • Draft or oversee development of publications (abstracts, posters, slide presentations, and journal articles) to meet medical communication objectives in alignment with the overall objectives of our client’s metabolic programs
  • Develop foundational scientific and medical reference materials in metabolic therapeutic areas to help inform communication strategies
  • Provide oversight of work by vendors (external communications agencies, freelance writers and artists) and/or junior team members to develop compliant materials that meet quality standards and communication objectives
  • For appropriate programs, work with vendors and/or team members to develop/maintain metabolic disease focused scientific platforms that outline core scientific statements/messages and identify data/communication gaps
  • Collaborate with Corporate communications, Investor Relations, and Patient Advocacy to ensure aligned and consistent external communications across audiences on key milestones and data
  • Prepare team for success at external facing medical events, including defining and informing team members on event objectives; speaker prep and Q&A practice; development, maintenance, and dissemination of key training and compliance materials; ensure sharing of congress learnings through reports, program team updates, and literature summaries
  • Represent clients favorably at external events, including conferences and medical exhibit booths
  • Support onboarding, training and development of more junior team members
