Job Title: Scientist / Sr. Scientist (Polymer Chemistry)
Work Location: Middlesex County, Massachusetts
Summary:
We are seeking a brilliant and hands-on Scientist/Senior Scientist to lead the development of next-generation therapeutic delivery systems. This role focuses on the intersection of polymer science and biologics, specifically targeting the design of nano/micro-polymeric particles and the synthesis of Antibody-Drug Conjugates (ADCs). Unlike traditional LNP platforms, your work will center on sophisticated polymeric scaffolds and site-specific conjugation to create stable, targeted therapeutics.
Responsibilities:
- Polymer Synthesis & Characterization: Design and synthesize functional polymers for the fabrication of nano- and micro-particles (non-lipid based).
- Bioconjugation Chemistry: Lead the development of ADC platforms, utilizing diverse linker-payload chemistries and site-specific conjugation techniques to attach biologics to polymeric scaffolds or small molecules.
- Formulation Development: Optimize the encapsulation and release profiles of biologics within polymeric matrices.
- Analytical Validation: Perform rigorous characterization using techniques such as HPLC/UPLC, SEC, DLS, TGA, DSC, and NMR to ensure particle stability and conjugation efficiency.
- Innovation: Stay at the forefront of non-lipid delivery technologies, identifying new ways to improve the therapeutic index of biologics.
- Collaboration: (Sr. Level) Drive project timelines, mentor junior researchers, and present findings to the executive leadership team.
Qualifications:
- PhD in Biological Chemistry, Bioengineering, Polymer Science, or a related field with 0–5 years of experience (industry experience highly preferred).
- OR Master’s Degree (MS) with 5+ years of direct industry experience in a research setting.
- Polymer Science: Deep expertise in the synthesis and formulation of polymeric nano/micro-particles (e.g., PLGA, PEGylation, hydrogels).
- Note: This role specifically excludes LNP/Lipid-based delivery.
- ADC & Conjugation: Proven track record in biologics conjugation (Antibody-Drug Conjugates). Familiarity with click chemistry, maleimide-thiol, and enzymatic conjugation.
- Biologics Handling: Strong understanding of the stability, purification, and analysis of proteins/antibodies.
- Experience with controlled-release kinetics and biodegradation studies.
- Familiarity with purification techniques like TFF (Tangential Flow Filtration) or AKTA/FPLC.
- Experience in a fast-paced, startup-style biotech environment.
