Work Location: Middlesex County, Massachusetts
Summary:
Seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to support histology, molecular biology, and protein analysis activities in a dynamic laboratory environment. This contract role offers the opportunity to contribute to innovative research projects and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare, embed, and section mammalian tissues using microtome, vibratome, and cryostat techniques for both FFPE and fresh-frozen samples.
- Optimize and execute a range of histological staining protocols, including H&E, special stains, and multiplex immunofluorescence.
- Perform immunohistochemistry (IHC) and immunofluorescence (IF) to assess protein localization, target engagement, and cellular phenotypes.
- Acquire and analyze high-quality images using epifluorescence and/or confocal microscopy, utilizing software such as ImageJ or Halo for quantitative analysis.
- Isolate DNA and RNA from tissues and cells, perform RNA quality assessment, cDNA synthesis, and design/validate qRT-PCR assays for gene expression and pharmacodynamic studies.
- Conduct protein extraction, Western blotting, and utilize automated or capillary-based electrophoresis systems for protein analysis and biomarker quantification.
- Develop, refine, and implement SOPs to ensure reproducibility and consistency across laboratory studies and troubleshoot assay variability.
- Collaborate with team members to design experiments, maintain accurate electronic laboratory notebook documentation, and present findings to project teams.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Cell Biology or a related field, with 1+ years of laboratory experience (biopharmaceutical industry experience preferred).
- Hands-on experience in histology, including tissue embedding, sectioning (microtome/vibratome/cryostat), and staining.
- Experience with IHC/IF and quantitative microscopy (epifluorescence and/or confocal).
- Familiarity with electronic laboratory notebook systems.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and experience with assay development and optimization.
- Candidates of various experience levels will be considered; position level determined by experience.
- Experience with multiplex IHC/IF and advanced image analysis platforms is a plus.
- Additional experience with automated nucleic acid extraction, biological assays (flow cytometry, ELISA, MSD), animal models, or supporting translational biology/pharmacodynamic/biodistribution studies is preferred but not required.
