Director of Nursing

Summary:
The Director of Nursing provides strategic and operational leadership for nursing services, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centered care in compliance with state regulations and professional standards. This role oversees Nurse Managers and Charge Nurses, focusing on clinical operations, staffing models, and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and direct all nursing operations, providing oversight to Nurse Managers and Charge Nurses.
- Develop and manage acuity-based staffing and scheduling models to ensure appropriate nurse-to-patient assignments based on patient needs and census.
- Monitor staffing trends, productivity, and skill mix, implementing strategies to optimize effectiveness and staff satisfaction.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, retention, and professional development of nursing staff, fostering a positive work environment.
- Oversee nursing quality metrics, patient outcomes, and performance improvement initiatives, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Participate in audits, surveys, and accreditation activities, addressing findings with corrective action plans as needed.
- Lead training and education for nurse managers on acuity scoring, workload management, and evidence-based staffing practices.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to implement new programs, workflows, and clinical initiatives impacting nursing services.
Qualifications:
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of California.
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) required.
- Minimum 5-7 years of progressive nursing leadership experience.
- Demonstrated experience managing nurse leaders (Nurse Manager, Charge Nurses, or equivalent).
- 3-5 years of management experience in the oncology setting.
- Experience in infusion services.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Strong communication skills and ability to apply policies and principles to solve problems.
- Experience with acuity-based staffing and workforce planning.
- Ability to plan, exercise initiative, problem-solve, and make decisions.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply clinic policies and procedures.
- Ability to identify problems and recommend solutions.
- Ability to establish priorities and coordinate work activities.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, specifically in Oncology/Hematology.
- Previous Oncology/Hematology experience required.
- Ability to travel to satellite clinics as needed.
