Work Location: Middlesex County, Massachusetts
Summary:
Seeking a motivated Senior Associate Scientist to support scalable biochemical assay testing and recombinant protein production. This contract role involves routine compound testing, protein expression and purification, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality data for discovery programs.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct routine biochemical assays for discovery compounds, including plate-based and label-free techniques, ensuring accurate compound handling and quality control.
- Maintain assay consistency by applying controls, reference standards, and monitoring key performance metrics.
- Support rapid structure-activity relationship studies by aligning compound testing workflows with project requirements.
- Document all assay procedures and results in electronic notebooks and manage data uploads to internal platforms.
- Prepare and present assay data for team meetings, clearly communicating results and any observed anomalies.
- Independently design, express, and purify recombinant proteins from various cell systems, performing thorough quality control before release.
- Troubleshoot technical issues in assays and protein production, proposing and implementing process improvements within established protocols.
- Assist with reagent qualification, method transfers, and maintain laboratory spaces, equipment, and inventory to support ongoing research activities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Bioengineering, or related field with approximately 6+ years of relevant industry experience, or Master’s degree with 2-4+ years of relevant experience.
- Hands-on experience with E. coli, mammalian, and insect cell culture systems.
- Proficiency in protein purification methods, including affinity chromatography and preparative SEC.
- Experience with protein biochemical and biophysical techniques such as FP, TR-FRET, SPR, analytical SEC, SDS-PAGE, and western blotting.
- Skilled in executing plate-based assays, including use of multichannel pipettes and/or liquid handling systems.
- Strong attention to detail, data quality, and consistent documentation; comfortable working with SOPs and timelines.
