Job Title: Automation/Controls Engineer
Work Location: Bergen County, New Jersey
Summary:
Seeking an Automation/Controls Engineer to design, develop, and commission PLC and SCADA control systems, provide technical support, and ensure high-quality automation solutions for clients. This role involves programming, troubleshooting, and supporting control system hardware and software, with some travel required for on-site commissioning and support.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and commission PLC and SCADA control system applications, including advanced features such as analog data handling, scripting, and database interfacing.
- Specify, purchase, and troubleshoot control system hardware and instrumentation, including both field and panel-mounted devices.
- Review, develop, and approve control system design documents and drawings, ensuring accuracy and adherence to industry standards.
- Provide on-site commissioning, customer training, validation, and service support, including approximately 10% overnight travel to client locations.
- Set up, configure, and test computers and software as part of control system integration, including virtualization and thin client technologies.
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including commissioning reports, field service logs, and engineering specifications.
- Stay current with industry standards, cGMP procedures, and emerging technologies relevant to automation and control systems.
- Collaborate with project teams, support sales efforts, and deliver exceptional customer service and technical support.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or engineering technology required.
- Minimum of three years’ experience in control system design and programming.
- Proficiency in programming and commissioning Allen Bradley PLCs (ControlLogix, PLC-5) using RSLogix, and SCADA systems (Wonderware and/or GE iFix).
- Experience with scripting, security configuration, recipe configuration, database interfacing, and report configuration in SCADA environments.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to handle multiple assignments.
- Familiarity with cGMP procedures and validation processes preferred.
- Valid driver’s license required; ability to travel overnight as needed.
- Confined space entry training required or willingness to obtain.
