Summary:
The Preclinical Services Technologist is responsible for supporting research projects by coordinating and performing animal work, including both surgical and non-surgical procedures, as well as pre- and post-procedural care for various animal models. This role involves assisting with study development, protocol writing, inventory management, and the use of laboratory and diagnostic equipment, all while adhering to institutional procedures and guidelines.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and execute animal work for research projects, including both surgical and non-surgical procedures.
- Provide pre- and post-procedural care for rodent and non-rodent models, and potentially human cadavers.
- Assist in the development and coordination of research studies, including protocol writing and generating study documentation.
- Manage inventory and order necessary supplies for ongoing and upcoming research projects.
- Perform tissue harvests and utilize a wide range of laboratory and diagnostic equipment as required by research protocols.
- Ensure compliance with institutional procedures and guidelines throughout all research activities.
- Communicate effectively with investigative staff regarding animal health, compliance, training, and facility issues.
- Maintain detailed records, demonstrate strong organizational skills, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously with flexibility and initiative.
Qualifications:
- Associates Degree in Veterinary Science or Technology, Animal Science, Biological Sciences, or a related field.
- 3 years of experience as a Veterinary Technician or in laboratory animal medicine.
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field preferred.
- ALAT/LAT AALAS and/or CVT certification(s) preferred.
- 3-5 years of experience in a related field preferred.
- Proficiency in techniques such as PO, SQ, ID, IM, IP dosing, blood collection, necropsy, tissue collection, surgical techniques, anesthesia monitoring, and familiarity with minimally invasive surgical techniques and equipment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with investigative staff and communicate health, compliance, and facility issues.
- Detail-oriented with superb organizational skills, able to handle multiple tasks, and demonstrate good work habits, flexibility, and initiative.
- Comfortable using Microsoft Office Suite.
