Job Title: Buyer

Work Location: Suffolk County, New York

Summary:

Responsible for procurement activities, cost mitigation, and maintaining safety stock levels for raw materials and finished goods. This role requires expertise in sourcing, negotiation, purchasing, and ERP systems, with a focus on supporting manufacturing operations and ensuring supply chain efficiency.

Responsibilities:

  • Negotiate supplier agreements, focusing on pricing, payment terms, cost reductions, lead time improvements, and quality enhancements.
  • Forecast and plan blanket orders, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely procurement.
  • Analyze inventory positions to maintain adequate safety stock levels and perform quarterly safety stock reviews for management.
  • Drive cost reduction initiatives and mitigate vendor price increases through proactive sourcing and negotiation strategies.
  • Monitor vendor performance to ensure on-time delivery and evaluate alternative sources for components and raw materials.
  • Establish and maintain vendor contingency programs and negotiate competitive freight agreements.
  • Support high-level projects and new product development by sourcing and expediting materials, and assist with customer bid negotiations.
  • Maintain accurate ERP system data, department documentation, and provide backup and support to the supply chain team as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, business administration, or equivalent experience.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in supply chain, manufacturing, or sourcing roles.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment and with purchasing flat and rolled steel or electrical components is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of MRP, safety stock modeling, and forecasting.
  • Project management experience and ability to work independently.
  • Certifications such as APICS, ISM, Lean, or Six Sigma are advantageous.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems (Visual preferred but not required), Power BI, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills, with a proactive and detail-oriented approach.
  • Ability to manage supplier agreements, understand technical specifications, and perform with high accuracy and urgency.
