Lab Technician - Materials Testing
Work Location: Durham County, North Carolina
Summary:
Seeking a skilled Lab Technician to support materials testing operations, ensuring accurate analysis and compliance with laboratory standards. The role involves hands-on work with advanced analytical equipment, sample preparation, and adherence to safety protocols.
Responsibilities:
- Operate and maintain a variety of analytical instruments, including those for gas fusion, combustion analysis, ICP-OES, powder rheometry, and calorimetry.
- Prepare metallographic samples using mounting, grinding, and polishing techniques for microstructural analysis.
- Ensure laboratory cleanliness, organization, and adherence to safety standards at all times.
- Handle chemicals and hazardous materials safely, following all regulatory and safety guidelines.
- Accurately record, review, and report test results within required timelines.
- Follow standard operating procedures and assist in developing new testing methods as needed.
- Support quality assurance initiatives and maintain compliance with laboratory accreditation standards.
- Adapt to evolving responsibilities and tasks as required by operational needs.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 1 year of experience as a technician in a materials testing environment.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Eligibility as a U.S. Person for access to export-controlled information or facilities.
- Experience in laboratories with accreditations such as ISO 17025, A2LA, or Nadcap (preferred).
- Hands-on experience with metallographic sample preparation, inert gas fusion, combustion analysis, ICP-OES, powder rheometry, and/or differential scanning calorimetry (preferred).
- Experience with safe handling and use of hazardous chemicals and materials (preferred).
