We are seeking an experienced Health and Safety Specialist for our facility focused on bench-level chemical work. This ongoing contract role requires 1–2 days of onsite commitment per week (you can choose your schedule). The ideal candidate will have direct prior experience working in a chemical laboratory or handling setting.
Core Responsibilities
- Ensure full adherence to all federal (OSHA, EPA) and local EHS regulations, particularly the OSHA Lab Standard (29 CFR 1910.1450).
- Oversee proper chemical handling, storage, and segregation.
- Coordinate the safe and compliant disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous chemical waste (RCRA).
- Create and update safety policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Investigate incidents/near-misses, determine root causes, and manage corrective actions.
- 3+ years of EHS experience, preferably within a chemical laboratory, R&D, or manufacturing environment.
- Strong practical knowledge of chemical handling, hazardous waste rules, and regulatory reporting (OSHA, EPA).
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to train and mentor technical staff.
