Laboratory Manager - Job Description

Summary:

Seeking a Temporary Laboratory Manager to oversee the technical and administrative functions of a specialized medical laboratory. This role is responsible for ensuring efficient workflow, regulatory compliance, and high-quality diagnostic testing, while serving as the primary liaison between laboratory staff and senior medical leadership.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and perform molecular diagnostic testing, particularly utilizing advanced laboratory platforms for STI analysis.
  • Maintain full compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local laboratory regulations and protocols.
  • Direct all phases of laboratory workflow, ensuring accuracy and integrity throughout pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical processes.
  • Validate diagnostic results by applying rigorous quality control standards prior to reporting.
  • Serve as the technical expert for laboratory instrumentation and information systems, providing guidance and troubleshooting support.
  • Develop and implement standardized procedures to optimize specimen processing and laboratory efficiency.
  • Oversee equipment maintenance, inventory management, and vendor relationships to ensure uninterrupted laboratory operations.
  • Enforce strict safety and security protocols to protect laboratory personnel and sensitive information.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 4–5 years of experience in a clinical laboratory environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or a Physical Science required.
  • Eligibility for or possession of ASCP certification.
  • Proficiency with advanced laboratory systems and laboratory information software; experience with specific LIS platforms is a plus.
  • Demonstrated expertise in aseptic techniques and maintaining sterile laboratory environments.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective reporting and team collaboration.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and safely handle laboratory chemicals.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite and laboratory data management tools.
