Job Title: Medical Assistant

Work Location: Los Angeles County, California

Summary:

Seeking a Medical Assistant to support oncology patient care by performing clinical and administrative duties in a fast-paced environment. This role involves direct patient interaction, coordination of care, and collaboration with healthcare professionals to ensure quality service throughout the treatment process.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage patient intake, including greeting, verifying insurance, collecting co-pays, and updating demographic information in the EMR system.
  • Document patient screening data, take vitals, and ensure all required information is accurately entered into the EMR.
  • Coordinate patient appointments, follow-ups, and outside referrals, including lab, testing, and scanning schedules.
  • Handle all incoming calls, route messages, process prescription refill requests, and maintain thorough records of patient interactions.
  • Assist with medication administration, including preparing supplies for nursing staff, dispensing medications, and documenting in the MAR.
  • Monitor patient flow, manage no-shows and cancellations, and ensure timely rescheduling and communication with patients.
  • Support onboarding and training of new Medical Assistants, serve as a preceptor, and oversee workflow within the clinic.
  • Collaborate with providers, back office, and management to coordinate patient care, obtain prior authorizations, and ensure compliance with clinic protocols.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of an accredited medical assistant program with certification.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Excellent phlebotomy skills and knowledge of medical laboratory procedures.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate clearly with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
  • Ability to multitask, set priorities, and organize work to meet deadlines in compliance with established processes and regulations.
  • Demonstrated assessment, critical thinking, and customer service skills; ability to maintain emotional stability in stressful situations.
  • Basic computer knowledge and proficiency in EMR systems.
  • Fluency in Spanish (required); previous oncology/hematology experience preferred.
