Sr. Mechatronics Engineer

Summary:
Seeking a Sr. Mechatronics Engineer to drive the development and maintenance of advanced prosthetic platforms, integrating embedded firmware, hardware prototyping, and R&D operations. This role involves full-cycle hardware builds, embedded firmware development, and vendor management to support innovative product solutions.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, test, and review embedded firmware in C/C++ for communication drivers and support peer code reviews.
- Lead hardware prototyping, including PCB assembly and full prototype integration from schematic to functional hardware.
- Create 3D models and mechanical CAD assemblies for fixtures, housings, and enclosures using SolidWorks or similar tools.
- Draft and execute verification and validation protocols for hardware and firmware, including black-box testing and regulatory documentation.
- Manage sourcing, ordering, and vendor relationships for R&D components and assemblies.
- Support escalated return material authorization (RMA) evaluations and systems testing as required.
- Ensure compliance with regulated or safety-critical system standards through formal protocol authorship and test reporting.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to advance both new and existing product platforms through all stages of the build cycle.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics, Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field.
- 5+ years of experience in hardware product development, including embedded C/C++ and Rust programming.
- Proficiency in motor control implementation (FOC or equivalent) and communication protocols such as CAN bus, I2C, SPI, UART.
- Experience with SolidWorks or equivalent CAD software, from modeling to prototype assembly.
- Hands-on skills in PCB handling, soldering, and bench debugging using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and multimeters.
- Demonstrated ability to author formal verification and validation protocols for regulated or safety-critical systems.
- Experience managing vendor relationships and component/assembly ordering for R&D operations.
- Must be able to work full-time, on-site in Baltimore County, Maryland.
- Preferred: Experience in medical device, aerospace, or regulated product development environments.
- Preferred: Familiarity with BLE firmware/mobile app interfaces, ECAD tools (KiCad, Altium), and RTOS environments.
