Job Title: Automation Engineer

Summary:
The Automation Engineer is responsible for supporting the design, implementation, and maintenance of automation and control systems within a sterile manufacturing environment. This role collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure reliable and compliant operation of PLC, HMI, and SCADA-based systems, while maintaining high standards of documentation and system integrity.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain automation and control systems for manufacturing and facility equipment, focusing on PLC, HMI, and SCADA platforms.
- Diagnose and resolve automation system issues, conduct root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to enhance equipment reliability and uptime.
- Create, update, and manage PLC logic and HMI/SCADA configurations in line with established standards, change control, and validation requirements.
- Participate in new equipment installations and automation-related capital projects, including requirements gathering, vendor coordination, FAT/SAT, commissioning, and system handoff.
- Support compliance activities for computerized systems, including change control, documentation, risk assessments, and validation processes.
- Maintain accurate and inspection-ready automation documentation, such as control narratives, network diagrams, I/O lists, alarm configurations, and system backups.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure automation systems meet operational, quality, and compliance standards.
- Apply knowledge of industrial networking and system connectivity to support integration and troubleshooting of automation systems.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Automation Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a closely related field.
- 4–7 years of hands-on automation or controls engineering experience in a regulated manufacturing environment (pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, or similar).
- Proven experience with PLC/HMI/SCADA systems, including troubleshooting and system modifications in a production setting.
- Hands-on experience with vision systems for automated inspection or quality control, such as AVI, label verification, or camera-based detection systems.
- Working knowledge of cGMP requirements, computerized systems practices, and data integrity principles in regulated manufacturing.
- Familiarity with industrial networking concepts and automation system connectivity (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP/Serial).
- Strong analytical, organizational, and documentation skills with a focus on accuracy, compliance, and operational reliability.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, manufacturing, quality, and external vendors.
