Job Title: Facilities Technician
Work Location: Charleston County, South Carolina
Summary:
The Facilities Technician plays a crucial role in supporting the installation, maintenance, and repair of infrastructure within a laboratory environment. This position ensures the facility remains safe, operational, and compliant with cleanliness and safety standards, while providing essential support for daily operations and special projects.
Responsibilities:
- Support daily operations and maintenance of facility systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire and security systems, and laboratory equipment.
- Uphold cleanliness and safety standards throughout laboratory spaces, offices, conference rooms, and exterior grounds.
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on facility infrastructure and equipment as needed.
- Coordinate and oversee scheduled inspections and emergency repairs with external vendors.
- Prepare the facility for weather-related events, including system shutdowns and reactivations.
- Respond promptly to health, safety, and facilities-related issues as they arise.
- Conduct regular inspections and preventative maintenance of building systems to ensure optimal performance.
- Interpret technical manuals and schematics to troubleshoot and service laboratory equipment effectively.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent, or relevant on-the-job experience in facilities or maintenance roles.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment as a production scheduler or similar position.
- Familiarity with manufacturing-based ERP and/or LIMS systems.
- Technical training or equivalent experience in facilities or maintenance roles.
- Strong mechanical, electrical, or instrumentation aptitude.
- Proficiency with hand tools, diagnostic equipment (such as Digital Voltmeters), and basic building systems.
- Knowledge of HVAC systems is highly desirable.
- Ability to interpret technical documents and adhere to safety standards.
- Comfortable using Microsoft Office programs, including Word and Excel.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to prioritize tasks in a dynamic environment.
- Experience collaborating with laboratory personnel and contractors.
