Sample Tech II

Work Location: Middlesex County, New Jersey

Summary:

The Sample Tech II is responsible for the accurate processing, inventory, and shipment of biological and pharmaceutical specimens, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and maintaining the integrity of all samples and equipment.

Responsibilities:

  • Process, label, and enter biological/pharmaceutical specimens into a digital inventory system, ensuring accuracy and completeness of all records.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and investigators, maintaining strong documentation practices in accordance with regulatory requirements and standard operating procedures.
  • Respond to customer inquiries, generate shipping manifests, retrieve samples from cold storage, and prepare shipments as needed.
  • Verify and store new samples according to intake documentation, ensuring proper inventory and storage conditions are maintained.
  • Manage inventory transfers from failed or retired equipment and respond to freezer temperature alarms, assessing and resolving issues as necessary.
  • Monitor and record storage temperatures, perform root cause analysis of deviations, and initiate service requests when required.
  • Participate in on-call rotation for nights and weekends, assist with training new and existing personnel, and maintain compliance with relevant standards.
  • Aliquot frozen specimens using aseptic technique, label vials and shipping boxes, perform dry shipper quality control, and validate and maintain repository equipment.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Coursework in biology and/or chemistry with exposure to scientific laboratory equipment and laboratory techniques.
  • Some undergraduate coursework in basic sciences preferred.
  • Experience with laboratory protocols, systems, and documentation techniques.
  • Experience handling and ensuring safety of biohazardous materials preferred.
  • Warehouse and inventory experience.
  • Strong attention to detail, proactive, organized, and able to multitask and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to perform procedural work routines and operate specialized scientific equipment.
  • Effective and professional communication skills with clients and vendors.
  • Punctual, dependable, and trustworthy.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand/move for extended periods.
