Job Title: Safety Specialist

Summary:
The Safety Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining safety and environmental programs to ensure a safe and compliant workplace. This role involves regular inspections, training, and coordination of safety initiatives to minimize risks and maintain regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and oversee safety and environmental policies to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, regularly observing workplace practices for adherence.
- Conduct routine inspections of facilities, equipment, and waste storage areas to identify hazards, recommend corrective actions, and verify implementation of safety measures.
- Design and deliver training programs for staff and management on safety practices, emergency procedures, and proper handling of hazardous materials.
- Investigate incidents involving chemical spills or workplace injuries, gather information from involved parties, and prepare detailed reports for management and regulatory agencies.
- Monitor and maintain safety records, including accident logs, MSDS files, and compliance documentation required by local, state, and federal agencies.
- Coordinate waste disposal activities, ensuring proper classification, documentation, and collaboration with external waste management providers.
- Manage inventory and distribution of personal protective equipment (PPE) and other safety-related materials, ensuring adequate supply and proper usage.
- Lead safety committee meetings, implement emergency response plans, and track monthly safety metrics to promote continuous improvement in workplace safety.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Three to five years of related experience and/or training in safety, environmental compliance, or a similar field.
- Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and state environmental regulations.
- Experience conducting safety inspections and investigations.
- Ability to develop and deliver safety training programs.
- Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Experience with emergency response planning and safety committee leadership is preferred.
