Summary:
The Technical Assistant I will support the daily operations of a flow cytometry core laboratory, focusing on instrument operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting. This role involves providing high-quality flow cytometry services, user training, and technical support to researchers. Responsibilities:
- Assist with daily operations of the flow cytometry core lab, including operation and maintenance of high-speed cell sorters and benchtop analyzers.
- Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, quality control, and troubleshooting for cytometry instruments and associated software.
- Provide technical support and training to researchers, including orientation for new users and assistance with scheduling and usage requirements.
- Log and report instrument issues, interact with vendor service engineers, and maintain accurate usage records in databases.
- Support researchers by advising on cytometry protocols, addressing problems promptly, and maintaining strong working relationships.
- Assist with laboratory administrative tasks such as supply ordering, billing, inventory management, and protocol documentation.
- Participate in ongoing professional development, including attending workshops, seminars, and core lab events.
- Maintain laboratory safety standards, prepare reagents, and ensure all work areas are organized and compliant with biosafety guidelines.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in biology required.
- 1-2 years of experience in a research laboratory setting.
- Experience in flow cytometry preferred; hands-on cell sorting experience is a plus but not required.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours as needed, including occasional evening shifts during training.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Team-oriented with a customer-service mindset and ability to collaborate with researchers and technical staff.
- Willingness to commit to the role for 1-2 years; relocation support available.
