Summary:
The Business Development Specialist is responsible for expanding the study portfolio by cultivating relationships with sponsors, contract research organizations (CROs), and networks that award clinical trials. This role focuses on generating revenue through the acquisition of new study opportunities, strengthening existing sponsor relationships, and positioning the site as a preferred partner for clinical trial execution. The position manages the entire business development lifecycle, from opportunity identification to agreement closure and study transition to operations. Compensation includes a base salary with bonus/commission potential.
Responsibilities:
- Drive new study acquisition by proactively reaching out to sponsors, CROs, and participating in site networks.
- Oversee the feasibility response process, coordinating with internal teams to ensure timely and competitive submissions.
- Develop and sustain professional relationships with sponsor and CRO business development, clinical operations, and site selection teams.
- Represent the site at industry conferences, investigator meetings, and relevant events to enhance visibility and networking.
- Maintain accurate records of pipeline activities, outreach efforts, and sponsor feedback using CRM systems.
- Collaborate with medical and operational teams to align site capabilities with sponsor requirements and study needs.
- Negotiate and facilitate the execution of clinical trial agreements, budgets, and start-up timelines in partnership with legal and finance teams.
- Provide regular reports on pipeline metrics, win/loss rates, and revenue forecasts to leadership.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years of experience in clinical research business development, site selection, sponsor/CRO outreach, or site operations with business development exposure.
- Knowledge of the study startup process, including feasibility, budget negotiation, and contract execution.
- Understanding of sponsor and CRO site evaluation and selection criteria.
- Existing relationships with sponsor or CRO personnel are highly desirable.
- Excellent communication skills, with confidence in presenting to medical directors, sponsors, and executive leadership.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage a business development pipeline independently.
- Proficiency with CRM tools and Microsoft Office; experience with clinical trial management systems (CTMS) is a plus.
